Husband & wife, Ron & Anne , along with sons, Ronnie & Zachary, started Elk Street Brewery Ltd. & Tap Room based on a long brewing dream (pun intended). Way back in 1985, when craft brewing or craft beer wasn't all the rage, while the couple were dating & attending college at WMU, Anne found the perfect gift for Ron. It was a home beer brewing kit purchased from a small home brewing supply shop in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Like everything Ron does, he thoroughly researched & gathered information, often consulting the knowledgeable & helpful shop owner, on the ins & outs of successful home brewing. Ron was hooked! From that time on, he talked of one day opening his own microbrewery...and here we are. When we found 3 South Elk, we knew we had a great location, right on the corner, in a bustling county seat town. A turn of the century beauty adorned with tons of character...an original tin ceiling, oak floors, & lots of exposed brick...spoke to us & we listened. The integrity was there to house a beautiful tap room, albeit all of it need of refurbishing, but we saw the promise of a very cool space that would accommodate a successful & popular micro-brewery, tap room and an additional expanded space that serves excellent Craft Beer & Craft Food.
About a year after Elk Street Brewery opened a opportunity became available to purchase the building to the south of the original tap room. We set about refurbishing what we now call the silver side. Although, it didn't have the built in character the original side had, we were able to link the two buildings, add a new kitchen and create a uniquely different additional space to include pallets, reclaimed barn steel & exposed brick in which to enjoy our nine Craft Beers & eclectic Craft Food menu. Try our house Smoked Pork, Hearty Feature Sandwiches, Fish Tacos & variety of Savory Dips, Nachos, Flat breads and Signature Elk Burgers....where else can you get a great elk burger, but at Elk Street Brewery on Elk St. in Sandusky, MI. In addition to our delicious eclectic menu, our expanded menu from 4:30-9:00 on Fridays & Saturdays features Prime Rib, Scottish Salmon, St. Louis Smoked Ribs, Chicken Romano, Mushroom Ravioli, Rib-eye Steak & Beef Burgundy, Same menu, regardless of which side you sit on, just two unique, but different settings.
